Christmas decorations

Out for an evening walk and taken pictures of the outdoor Christmas decorations.  An issue people have in the cold weather is their camera batteries performance, that can lose up to 40% of their charge. If your camera has a new battery this shouldn't be a problem, if not keep a spare battery in your pocket to keep it warm so it will be ready to use when needed.

Photography in winter

My studio is the great outdoors, so I spend as much time shooting outside in the frigid winter months as the more hospitable summer season.

A tripod isn't an expense, it's an investment. You will earn your money back from the quality of the shots done with a good quality tripod., but to do so you will need to bring it along with you, and in the colder weather the metal legs get very cold, so I put some hockey tape on one of my tripod legs to held keep my hands from freezing while carrying my tripod.
Some people prefer extra insolation and use a piece of cooper pipe insulation available at most any hardware store, which is also very effective in preventing your hands from "frostbite".  Either way there is no need to elave your tripod behind because of the cold weather.

Belt of Venus

The Belt of Venus or Venus's Girdle is an atmospheric phenomenon seen at sunrise and sunset. Shortly after sunset or shortly before sunrise, the observer is, or is very nearly, surrounded by a pinkish glow, This is an evening shot of the Belt of Venus shot from my gallery.

Rawdon, Quebec

The view from my kitchen window this morning,  shot with a 70-200mm lens. One of the benefits of living in the country is the view from inside my house.

I love to shoot photos a night, scenes in their natural light shot without flash. The new technology in digital camers make it easier than ever to accomplish some great images.

Ogilvy's Christmas window

Ogilvy's Christmas window at the corner of Ste-Catherine street West and de la Montagne, is a highlight of Montreal's Christmas decorations since 1947.

German toymaker Steiff, known for their teddy bears created this year set with a cast of woodland creatures.  Mariouche Gagne of Harricana, known for their use of recycled furs, dressed and accessorized the some 60 forest creatures on display.

Stream or Creek ?

Water, the lifeline of life. Man needs nature to survive, but  nature can survive on it's own.
