Covering spot news

When I'm out covering a major spot news item, I will need to get the pictures back to my news agency as fast as possible.  You can shoot photos with your cel phone, but I have a better choice of lenses if I shoot with my digital SLR camera.

This is where my Olympus's wifi comes in handy. As soon as I arrive on site I can shoot a picture or two with my digital camera, transfer them to my  iphone  which I have on me. Then choose one photo and send it off directly on site without having to return to my car to download the photos on my laptop, then ship them off.  I will then continue shooting, looking for better angles to shot from for additional material to be added to the news article.

Covering spot news isn't everyone's cup of tea, and that I can fully understand.

Spot news items happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You need to be able to cover a fire at 2am like the one above, or free to go and take pictures of an accident or other incident at any time during the day. As spot news photographers we are on call 24/7.  What I enjoy about covering spot news items is the challenge to get that one photo that best describes the event that is unfolding.

Covering spot news at -20C this afternoon, better than last night when the temperature dipped to -30C. At least the photos have a nice blue sky.

Incendie Gadoua

Gadoua Saint-Thomas-de-Joliette. Un incendie c'est eclate ce matin vers 7h10 a la boulangerie Gadoua de Saint-Thomas. Les pompiers de Saint-Charles-Borromee, Joliette et Lavaltrie ont repondu a l'appel.

Incendie Patrick Morin, Joliette

Un incendie dans la nuit de dimanche a completement detruit un hangar a bois a l'arriere du magasin de Patrick Morin du Boulevaard Firestone a Joliette.

Incendie Rawdon

Une petite maison sur la rue Des Lilas dans le village de Rawdon a ete completement detruit par un incendie vendredi soir. Les policiers ont ouvert un enquete pour determiner la cause exacte du brassier, qui pour le moment semble accidentel.
