Air Transat, Best Canadian carrier

Air Transat, named World's Best Leisure Airline in 2018, is standing out once again among travellers, who have rated it the top Canadian carrier in Protégez-Vous magazine's airlines ranking. Air Transat is in fourth place among the 11 carriers evaluated.

Protégez-Vous compiled its best airlines ranking based on an online survey conducted October 5-12, 2018, among 2,513 respondents who evaluated various aspects of their flying experiences in the previous two years, including the ticket-buying and seat-booking process, pre-flight welcome, staff courteousness, inflight service, aircraft cleanliness, entertainment and meals available and value for money. The ranking also takes into account flight on-time performance

Olympus OMD E-M1

 

I got to try an Olympus OMD E-M1 camera with a  Zuiko 12-40mm f2.8 pro  lens.  It is a wonderful compact lightweight camera compared to my Canon 1D or 7D.  This photo was shot in Olympus raw format ORF,  I added a diorama and frame effect in Olympus Viewer 3 and converted to jpeg and resized for this blog.  I was overall impressed by the ease of use of this camera and the results,  I may end up exchanging my Canon gear for Olympus after all.

Canada post strike

Pending Canada Post strike. Needed to do photos about the possibility of a Canada Post strike. There are various possibilities, but I decided to do photos of  those infamous  community mailboxes. So I chose a remote rural location, free of people, almost looking like abandoned mailboxes.

At Nor-Am races, aspiring ski stars get the chance to compete at an international level.  Nor-Am races allow athletes to prepar5e mentally and technically for World Cup racing.

Future Shop no more.

Ste-Catherine street, Montreal

While having my first cup of coffee Saturday morning, there was a rumor circulating about Future Shop closing all their stores in Canada. I live in the country and the nearest Future Shop is an hours drive, but i do have photos in my stock collection of the sign outside Future Shop's store in Ste-Catherine street in downtown Montreal. By the time it took me to put together the short article and attach my photo, although still nothing confirmed from Future Shop, on the web there where photos of signs on front doors of closed stores indicating they would be re-opening on April 4th as Best Buy.

There an old saying" Today's front page is tomorrows fish & chip wrapper". Today in the time it took me to finish my cup of coffee a new item went from "rumored" to posted images of the closed stores across the country.  The speed of internet does spread news items like wildfire, forget about tomorrow.

Lac Saint-Pierre

Lac Saint-Pierre is a lake in Quebec, located on the Saint Lawrence River near  Trois-Rivières, downstream  of  Montreal. Including its shoreline, and wetlands, the lake is a nature reserve.

This seasonally-flooded area is an important stopping point for hundreds of thousands of migrating waterfowl. It is also an important nesting area for herons, more have been counted here than in any other place in North America. In 1998, it was recognized as a wetland of international significance under the Ramsar Convention..Lac Saint-Pierre was designated a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 2000..

Target which have opened 124 stores since last spring have revealed a $941 US lost in Canada. They had originally foretasted a profit. This Target store in Joliette, Quebec doesn't stock any English greeting cards, unlike the nearby Wallmart which stocks English material for customers.

Justine Dufour-Lapointe takes second place at the Freestyle World Cup moguls at Val Saint-Come . Justine at 19, is the youngest of the sisters, Chloe, 22 took first place at the event.

The sisters make the Olympic team headed for Sochi. The women’s moguls team includes Montreal sisters Chloe, Justine  along with Audrey Robichaud of Quebec City.

In Canada, there is much hand-wringing over corporate tax rates, which - if you believe some pundits - scare off business here before it can begin. Still, outside of perhaps our neighbours to the south, you'd be hard-pressed to compile a list of more prominent companies born to a nation than in Canada, which is home to leaders in every sector of business. Major consumer brands like Tim Hortons and BlackBerry, of course, came from Canada, but so too do lesser-known powerhouses like Barrick Gold, the world's largest miner of gold, and Flickr, the web's most prominent photo sharing site.

CCLA to intervene in Omar Khadr case

On Friday November 13th, the CCLA will argue before the Supreme Court of Canada in a case that has serious implications for Canada’s commitment to uphold our fundamental rights and freedoms. The CCLA will argue that the federal government must comply with an order of the Federal Court to seek the repatriation of a Canadian citizen currently being held in Guantanamo Bay. The citizen, Omar Khadr, was only fifteen years old, and therefore a minor, when he was sent by US authorities to Guantanamo Bay seven years ago.
